Writing Prompt #10 Write about something that God created and imagine what God would have said about it afterward

The Earthworm
I am saving a worm from the grip of a preschooler.
I tried.
I tried to save a worm from being stretched
And smushed
Sawed with a stick
Whipped around and around
And stuffed into a plastic container
With no way of escape.
Sand, dirt, and some leaves
Are left lovingly for the worm to eat.
When no one is looking
I shake the worm free
From its death trap.
I watch as it wriggles.
How is this worm still alive?

God says to the worm he just created:
You’re a plaything for children on playgrounds.
You’re a dinner for birds.
You will dry up on hot concrete and form tough dry
Letter C’s
Because you were too slow to crawl back to the grass
After the rainstorm.
And yet, you are responsible for the very
Ground we walk on.

“It may be doubted whether there are many other animals which have played so important a
part in the history of the world, as have these lowly creatures.”
Charles Darwin 1881
